PLANO, TX - State Senators Joan Huffman (R - Houston), Mike Jackson (R - La Porte), and Kip Averitt (R - Waco) have endorsed Florence Shapiro for U.S. Senate. The three senators are the latest in a long line of Shapiro's state senate colleagues, both past and present, who have lent their support.
"I am extremely honored to add three more of my state senate colleagues to my U.S. Senate leadership team," said Shapiro. "These three senators, along with those who have already joined my team, will be instrumental as they all represent very different districts across Texas and can bring a unique perspective on the issues that affect their constituencies."
In addition to the majority of her state senate colleagues, both past and present, Hall of Fame Dallas Cowboy quarterback Roger Staubach, dozens of state representatives and local elected officials, and four former Texas Federation of Republican Women presidents have endorsed Florence Shapiro. During the past legislative session that ended June 1, Florence Shapiro was named "Best of the Legislature 2009", by Capitol Inside, and sponsored several key pieces of legislation including a school accountability bill that will shift the emphasis from standardized testing to college and workforce readiness, school finance legislation that provides an additional $1.9 billion for education in Texas, legislation that cracks down on sex offenders who prey on children using social networking websites, and a constitutional amendment that if approved by voters will pave the way for more Texas universities to achieve Tier One status.
Florence Shapiro suspended most U.S. Senate campaign activities during the legislative session to focus on her duties in the state senate, but has since resumed traveling and lining up supporters.
"I believe we had a successful legislative session that will benefit Texas families, and now I am ready to resume traveling the state and talking to voters about my U.S. Senate campaign," said Shapiro. "I believe my 30 year record of delivering results at all levels of government has prepared me to step in on day one and be an effective voice for Texas in the United States Senate."
